Team Kaos Ends Road Season with Multiple Podium Wins
2013 has been a very successful season for Team Kaos members participating in road racing. Team Kaos riders have been on the podium multiple times at numerous events throughout the midwest (and internationally). The most successful rider this year has been Lee Bumgarner, who won the top spot in the Midwest Flyover, a series of five race weekends in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Besides his individual win, Team Kaos came in second in team participation points. In other events we have had podium finishes in all categories except cat 3 and in all age groups. (All of last years category 3 riders moved up to category 2).
Many of our members are now turning their attention to cyclocross, with the first area events starting in September and the first Nebraska event (the Nebraska Cyclocross Weekend promoted by Greenstreet Velo) on October 11th and 12th.

Team Kaos at Benefit Rides
Team Kaos continues its tradition of supporting benefit (charity) rides. Recently several Team Kaos riders participated in the Tour de Cure (to benefit diabetes research) and the Rollin to Colon (colon cancer research). In addition Team Kaos made donations to both organizations. Check the link for other benefit rides, or if you know of one that is not on our list click on Contact Us to let us know.
Team Kaos puts on another successful race weekend
On June 8th and 9th Team Kaos once again organized a successful Nebraska Omnium Weekend. This was a cooperative effort with Greenstreet Velo who were the promoters for the Sid Dillon State Championship Time Trial, held in Yutan on June 8th. Team Kaos then took over and put on the first ever Ashland Criterium in Ashland (between Lincoln and Omaha) on Saturday evening June 8th, and then the Sid Dillon Road Race near South Bend, just east of Ashland on Sunday June 9th.. Points were awarded for each race and the riders with the most points won the omnium. See details at www.NebraskaOmnium.com.
This took a lot of hard work by many volunteers but it was worth it. Rider numbers were about 50% higher than last year for the road race despite threatening weather. Participation at the criterium was very good also, even though it rained off and on during the races. At least two groups raced in pouring rain. Remarkably there were no major crashes and only a couple case of road rash from minor spills unrelated to the weather.

Team Kaos starts out the year with a bang
Team Kaos has had a great beginning to 2013, with podium wins at Tour de Husker, Twin Bing and the Chris Lillig Memorial Cup among others. One of our new riders is Lee Bumgarner (Category 2). So far he has been winning almost every race he has entered. Last weekend he won the Iowa City Road Race with a broken spoke that caused his brakes to rub for the last part of the race. In the criterium Bumgarner and his teammates put on a display of textbook teamwork, as Joe McWilliams, Jordan Ross, and Chris Spence repeatedly attacked or answered attacks. Bumgarner stayed towards the front but was protected by his teammates. Then at the last few hundred meters he showed his power by easily sprinting to a win. Other winners for the weekend were Rich Pearson (Masters 60+) and Suzanne Wilson (Women Masters 35+). Team Kaos was also the top team in points for the weekend.
Check out our facebook page for pictures of all these events plus more.
Team Kaos is preparing now for the Nebraska Omnium Weekend, in cooperation with Greenstreet Velo. Greenstreet Velo is promoting the Sid Dillon Time Trial on saturday morning June 8th and Team Kaos is promoting the Ashland Criterium on Saturday and the Sid Dillon Road Race on Sunday June 9th. Check it all out at www.NebraskaOmnium.com. It looks to be an exciting weekend of racing, so sign up now through www.usacycling.org. We need volunteers to help with the corners and other important duties; if you are able to volunteer contact our volunteer coordinator Randy Marks at RL77Marks@gmail.com

As February nears its end members of Team Kaos are preparing for the coming season. TK members have been spotted riding in 30 degree weather just to get out and enjoy cycling during the dead of winter. We are looking forward to warmer weather and more light.
Plans are falling into place for the Nebraska Omnium Weekend. Ashland recently granted us permission to close several streets for the Ashland Criterium, a new event to be held as part of the Nebraska Omnium Weekend June 8th and 9th. Tentative plans are for a 24 miles time trial in the morning, the Ashland Criterium on Saturday afternoon, and the Sid Dillon Road Race on Sunday afternoon June 9th. The road race will be over the same course as last year, except we hope to extend it all the way over to highway 50, making it a 15.9 mile loop which includes a couple more big hills. The major sponsor for the race weekend is Sid Dillon Chevrolet in Fremont. The Nebraska Omnium Weekend is part of the Midwest Flyover Series, covering 5 race weekends in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. www.MidwestFlyover.com
